réaliser la contention à cheval d'animaux (vaches et chevaux) sur les grands marais de la vallée du Lay et des marais de la rivière Vendée ;  participer à la surveillance des troupeaux sur les marais à la demande des éleveurs et des communes ; réunir des cavaliers confirmés dans le travail du bétail ayant une grande maîtrise de la conduite d'un cheval en terrain difficile et constituer des équipes de 5 a 7 cavaliers encadrés par un cavalier responsable expérimenté ; former des cavaliers à la pratique du tri du bétail et du regroupement de troupeaux sur des grandes étendues
