Après la destruction par les Normands d'une première chapelle, une chapelle votive probablement édifiée au XIe siècle lui succéda. Sous l’Empire, elle servit de poudrière avant de disparaitre, au XIXe siècle. En 1944, à l’initiative de M. le Curé Ponthoreau, les Islais édifièrent sur le site, par leurs propres moyens, une modeste chapelle invoquant Notre-Dame de la Paix, en signe d’espérance. Née des mains de Michel Turbé, menuisier ébéniste, la statue de Notre-Dame y veille depuis au recueillement du visiteur. Le même ébéniste réalisa l’autel comportant une illustration exécutée par le capitaine Emile Breton. En 2017 et 2018, cette chapelle fit l’objet d’une restauration complète de la part de la paroisse (travaux de toiture, de charpente, peintures, ravalements extérieurs et intérieurs et carrelage).Warning: Undefined variable $MonumHisto3 in /srv/www/85/objet/Patrimoine.php on line 81
