Historique :	Ce portrait est celui de Monseigneur Paillou, nommé évêque de La Rochelle et de Luçon en 1805, en fonction jusqu'en 1826 pour La Rochelle, jusqu'en 1817 pour Luçon. Le tableau porte la signature d'un peintre nommé Sotta, sans indication de prénom, et n'est pas daté ; sa facture et sa signature permettent d'affirmer qu'il a été exécuté, vers la même date, par l'auteur du portrait de Monseigneur Soyer en 1822, le peintre d'origine italienne vivant alors à Saintes, C. G. Sotta.
